Girija is going to do it. He is going to sack Krishna Sitaula, and he is going to form a probe commission. And then he is going to sit down for talks with Upendra Yadav and the MJF leaders.
But before that he needs to drink some Madhesi blood. 40 martyrs are not enough. He needs more. The guy is a sadist.
Kans Sitaula is incompetent. He has not made peace with the Maoists, he has appeased them. His own party cadres are not safe from the Maoists, forget the Madhesis. The Maoists continue to publicly carry guns. The Maoist militia are well and alive, roaming the countryside, all set to capture booths during the elections. The cloud of Maoist fear hovers over the country. By Prachanda's own admission, the Maoists continue to extort ordinary citizens. Why are the citizens still giving money? Because they know the Maoist militia are still armed. Why else would they give? The internally displaced have not gone back to their homes. The political cadres of different parties have not gone back to their villages. The Maoists started with the RJP, but then went on to disrupt mass meetings of all parties, and also that of the MJF. That is precisely what Hitler's brown shirts did in the run up to the elections that brought Hitler to power through the ballot box.
Maoist misbehavior is as strong a reason to sack Kans Sitaula as is the state terror he unleashed upon the Madhesi Movement that made Kamal Thapa look like a nice guy. (Kamal Thapa Is A Nazi)
Krishna Sitaula has not made peace. He has appeased.
That 16 year old Mahato who got killed by a Maoist in Lahan. By then the Maoists had officially given all their guns to the UN. Why were they still carrying guns then? And if a murder was committed, murderers do not get to apologize. Murderers get tried and sentenced.
Today the Pahadis might think Mahato was a Madhesi kid, and so maybe it does not matter. Tomorrow it will be their turn, and they will find there is noone to speak up for them.
Prachanda felt he was sleepwalking to the Maoists emerging the largest party in the constituent assembly, and then the Madhesi Movement happened, and his dreams have been dashed. The Maoists have been wiped out of the Madhesh.
And so Prachanda is deeply, deeply offended. That is understandable. The guy is in a shock.
What is puzzling is the strange alliance between the Nepali Congress leadership and the Maoists. Is the anti-Madhesi prejudice of the Pahadi Bahuns who lead the Nepali Congress so strong that they will ally even with bloodhounds?
Girija thinks Prachanda is his fan, accepts his leadership. Prachanda think better an old, dying guy in power now than a Nepal or Deuba, because Girija is gone after the eletions and then it is the Maoists and Prachanda. Kans Sitaula feels the Maoists like him, they don't want him to resign. The truth is different. The Maoists do not like or dislike Sitaula. It is just that they know if Sitaula resigns and a probe commission is formed, the murderer of the Lahan incident will have to be brought to justice, and they don't want that. The Maoist murderers want to get away with murder.
After the Madhesi Movement was temporarily called off after February 7, the Maoists organized mass meetings in many Terai towns. They waited until they had done that in the eastern Terai, the Madhesi heartland, and then they disrupted the MJF mass meetings in Bhirahawa and Nepalgunj. Right after that the top Maoist leaders flew triumphantly to Kathmandu to deliver the good news to the old geezer Girija. Not one Pahadi neta or party condemned the Maoist disruption of the two MJF mass meetings. The blood of prejudice runs thick.
To the Maoists being able to hold mass meetings was a triumphant act. They did not realize any party can do that in a democracy. They lack democratic political culture.
For their Biratnagar mass meeting, the Maoists brought in truckloads of Pahadis from the hills. They were going to put up a show when there was lack of Madhesi support. And they did.
I am for the peace process. I argued for a constituent assembly long before Girija did. I argued for a democratic republic right after the king's coup. Girija has not done it yet. But you make peace from a position of strength. There has to be a measurable change in behavior. Peace making and appeasing are two fundamentally opposite things. We have to make peace. We can't afford to appease.
Kans Sitaula has been appeasing. Sadist Girija wants more Madhesi blood. Pol Pot Prachanda has wet dreams of power.

It amazes me that the Nepali Congress that has had its primary base in the Terai is so out of tune with the Madhesi Movement. That is what happens to a political party right before it gets routed. The Congress in India used to rule in Bihar.
