Stop Shooting, Give Concession Speech, Calm Down The Streets

ग्याने, िगिरजा, प्रचण्डे

Jay Krishna Goit, Interview by Dhirendra Premarshi for FM
The Home Minister needs to resign.

This is not a riot. This a Movement.
गृह मंत्रीका राजीनामा लेंगे
The demands have to be met. The eight party alliance has to issue a joint statement saying all Madhesis will be issued citizenship papers, all 5-6 million of them, and the 205 constituencies will be demarcated based on equal population. That is what will calm down the streets. There is no need for talks.

Talks for what? Talks to figure out as to why millions of Madhesis are out in the streets? Is that not obvious?
अफ्तब अालमको गृह मंत्री बनाअो
Girija is just another Pahadi Bahun.

Prachanda is just another Pahadi Bahun.

Baburam is just another Pahadi Bahun.
गणतन्त्रका घोषणा अभी करो
Stop the shooting.

Now.

नागिरकतापत्र दो
बराबर जनसंख्याका २०५ सीट दो
नहीं तो अलग देश ले लेंगे

The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum needs to turn itself into a political party as soon as the Movement concludes.

It is time to do a total electoral safaya of all the Pahadi parties in the Terai. That means the Congress, the UML, the Congress (D), the Maobadi. All of them.

प्रत्येक पहाडी पार्टीका मधेशसे पत्ता साफ करो
काँग्रेस, माअोवादी, एमाले
सबके सब गोलमाल हैं

Pratyek Pahadi Party Ka Madhesh Se Patta Saaf Karo.

नेपालका पहला राष्ट्रपित मधेशी हो

Nepal ka pahala rashtrapati Madhesi ho, sambidhan sabha ke prathan sabha ko.

Madhesi Adhikar: Abhi Nahin To Kabhi Nahin

Gyanendra, Girija, Prachanda, Baburam sab ek jaise hain. Sab ke sab Pahadi hain. Soshan karte hain. Daman karte hain. Golee chalate hain.

Talk to the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum.

Talk to Goit.

Talk to Jwala.

Meet the basic demands. Then talk and mainstream the two JTMM factions like you are mainstreaming the Maoists.

Lahan's Losers Nepali Times
As Nepalganj before it, Lahan signifies the deep resentment in the tarai against a pahadi state structure that has treated madhesis as second-class citizens. The MJF emerged practically out of nowhere to capitalise on this situation. ....... December and January have witnessed more bandas and strikes in the tarai than at any other time. ..... Lahan arrives just at this point and hands the MJF a clear victory. The biggest loser in all this have been the Maoists, the seven mainstream parties, and Nepal’s Kathmandu-centric civil society who can think of nothing more original than holding goodwill rallies at the Maitighar Mandala. ....... the biggest loser, it is the Maoists’ madhesi leader Matrika Prasad Yadav. It was bad enough that his party disregarded a banda for a genuine madhesi cause by trying to bulldoze through a blockade in Lahan. He then showed extreme stupidity by forcibly body-snatching the dead boy, thus insulting madhesi sensitivities. His pahadi leader, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, made matters even worse by stating: “there should be no talks with the MJF because talks can only be held with political forces, not criminals and gangsters.” ......... The MJF must be laughing all the way to the vote bank, at the expense of the Maoists and every other tarai group. ....... Anyone who has followed tarai politics in recent months will know that madhesi-pahadi violence there was waiting to erupt. Yesterday it was Nepalgunj. Today it is Lahan. Tomorrow it could be the dozens of other towns and villages that dot the tarai landscape ....... we have been blind to it, especially the pahadi dominated mainstream parties and civil society. Their belief that the constituent assembly election will resolve all problems has been shattered by this violence. They failed to see that the assembly was the problem, not the solution that they hoped it would be. ...... their peace process (the Comprehensive Peace Accord, interim constitution, constituent assembly, etc.) is seen by almost everyone as an eight-party process. It is perceived as exclusionary and elitist, and reinforcing a pahadi ethos—this view is particularly strong among madhesis and janajatis. ...... amendments to the interim constitution that at least provides for fair representation in the coming assembly.

Lahan Folk Face Curfew for 102 Hours in a Week

THT Online
Siraha, January 27:

Locals of Lahan have been reeling under curfew for the last one week. They have faced curfew for a total of 102 hours over the past week.
Violence erupted here after a student was killed in firing by Maoists during the bandh called by the Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum on January 19. The local administration began clamping curfew in Lahan since that day to quell violence.
Business establishments, academic institutions and the communications and transportation sectors have been badly hit due to the protest demonstrations continuing here since the past week. Those worst affected by the daily curfew and bandh are daily wageworkers.
Rickshaw-puller Bhola Paswan of Padariya-4 said, "We find it difficult to make both ends meet on a normal day. This daily curfew has crippled us."
Rohit Tamang of Lahan-1, who runs a tea-stall at Shiv Chowk, said, "We are surviving on chiura (beaten rice) and water for the past five days."
Over 3,000 daily wageworkers like Tamang have lost their source of income because of the continuous curfew and bandh.
It will take more than a week for the revival of business activities, academic institutions, local newspapers and transportation sectors, chairman of the Lahan Chambers of Commerce and Industries Nirash Chaudhari said.
He added that the business sector here has been affected tremendously due to the curfew and bandh. A loss of millions of rupees is being incurred daily, he said.
Goods could not be supplied to Solukhumbu and Namche because of the continuing unrest in the Lahan bazaar, which is the main business centre in the Sagarmatha zone, Chaudhari said.
Transport entrepreneurs are incurring a loss of lakhs of rupees daily because of curfew and bandh, chairman of the Sagarmatha Bus Entrepreneurs' Association Hari Narayan Yadav said. Around 1,000 transport workers are without work, he added.
Schoolchildren are compelled to stay home. Normal life has been crippled due to daily curfew, housewife Khusbu Hamal of Lahan-6 said.
Publication of around a dozen local dailies and weeklies has come to a halt for a week. Chief District Officer Shashi Shekhar Shrestha said the curfew is a compulsion, adding that it is being clamped regularly as it is the only means to curb violence and prevent casualties.
Stating that the curfew duration will be reduced gradually once the situation starts limping back to normal, Shrestha added that curfew will continue to be clamped for a few more days.

OHCHR, NHRC TEAMS VISIT LAHAN

ITAHARI: Teams from the Biratnagar-based Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights regional office and the National Human Rights Regional Office visited Lahan on Friday morning, a week after the incident. The team consisted of a dozen human rights activists, said regional head of the NHRC, Subarna Karmacharya. Both offices had delayed the on-the-spot visit to Lahan citing security reasons after the Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum cadres vandalised their vehicles at Inaruwa and Lahan on January 20. MJF Sunsari coordinator SN Mehta expressed regret over the misbehavior with the human rights officials when the teams reached Inaruwa on Friday.

SHORTAGE OF GOODS

GAIGHAT: Some bazaars in Udayapur district, including the Gaighat bazaar are facing severe shortage of daily consumption goods and petroleum products following continuous transport strike in the Terai region for the past some days. Locals have been thronging the local stores to purchase sugar, rice, daal, among other consumable goods and the shopkeepers here have raised prices of the goods.
